How to get the best performance out of your team

I’m a fan of using different combinations of players in different positions to try and maximise our chances of getting the best out of them.
For example, if you’re trying to play a 4-2-3-1 with a number of midfielders, you can swap a number with one of the wings or play two wingers in a diamond formation with the back three.
Or you can have a back four, two wing players and a striker.
And then you can switch to a 4–3-3 with the central midfielder or the holding midfielder and play a number between the wings.
If you have a wing that’s a bit more mobile than the rest of your squad, you may play him in a 4, a 3 or a 4.
There’s a lot to be said for switching things up.
But if you have an entire team in a system that is designed to exploit different types of players, then you may find it’s better to use a different formation, which gives you more options and allows you to make the most of them when you need them.
