By Dan Leitch, Business Insider/The Conversation”I think we have an issue that we can’t solve.
We can’t be the next Sweden.
We’ve been through that.
I don’t think we’re going to be able to replicate Sweden’s success because they’re a very, very small country and they’ve been successful in so many other countries.”
Dreams have become a bigger part of our lives and we can be in a state of denial about the realities of life as we know it, said Professor Matthew Levey from the University of Sydney.
“It’s not just about the dream, it’s about the reality of the dream,” he said.
The University of Queensland study, published in the journal Psychological Science, suggests that when you’re dreaming about something, you tend to want to dream of the same thing over and over again.
“You tend to think about the same things over and above what you think you need to do in order to achieve that dream, but it actually isn’t necessarily true,” said Dr Levey.
“People often think, ‘Well, I’ll just have the right idea, I’ve got to think of something that will work, and that’s it’.”
If you think of it, that is a pretty terrible way to go about achieving something.
“The key to staying motivated, according to the study, is to constantly ask yourself ‘what can I achieve by pursuing this dream’ and to use this as an excuse to think more about what you really need to achieve in order for that to happen.”
We tend to forget that the dream itself is really a way to get ourselves to think, think, and think again about what we need to get done in order, so it is a very important thing to remember, and then to keep doing that,” said Professor Levey, adding that when people forget that they are dreaming, they are less likely to achieve their dreams.”
I would say that people are usually in a good place when they are going through their dreams because they can look at themselves in the mirror, but then when you realise that you’re not dreaming, you have to really think about how you’re going about achieving that dream,” Dr Levey said.”
And that is really important, because it can change the way you think about achieving your dream.
